Community Service

Giving back to our community is an important part of the Girl Scout experience.  Our Service Unit team provides a full calendar of community service events throughout the year which are open to all San Francisco Troops to participate in, or for individual San Francisco Girl Scouts to join on their own.  (Must be logged into groups.io to access the links in our Community Service Folder.)

Check out our Program & Events calendar to join us at our next Community Service activity, or go to GS Norcal's Community Service page to find other opportunities organized by Council.

Deck the Halls

Every year our Troops kick-off the holiday season by making ornaments for the Girl Scout Tree at Davies Symphony Hall.  From SWAPS to knots, our creativity shines bright with new ornaments every year.  Once the tree is decorated, it is on display for the public to enjoy throughout the holidays.

To Kids from Kids Holiday Gift Drive

San Francisco Girl Scouts is proud to organize our annual To Kids from Kids Program, granting gift wishes to youth in SF's foster care system.  This program started 20+ years ago as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project, and has been making a lasting impact ever since.  Our Troops and families grant between 300-400 gift wishes annually.

One Warm Coat Drive

San Francisco Girl Scouts have embraced One Warm Coat's mission that "no one should go cold this winter" with an annual service unit-wide coat drive leading up to the winter holidays.  We also provide information to enable Troops and individual Scouts to organize drives on their own, any time of year.  Our Troops collect over 500 coats annually on behalf of the One Warm Coat organization, benefitting those in need in our local community.

Pie Baking for St. Anthony's Dining Room

St. Anthony's Dining Room serves 3000+ meals daily to those in need.  To help make their holiday meals special, SF Girl Scouts donate over 500 home made pies annually.   At our pie-baking event, we bake pumpkins & accept donated ingredients, ask each girl to make their first pie from the ground up, then form an assembly line to make pies together, adding up to a "pie-baking extravaganza"!  Most years Ms. Nancy also offers an optional full weekend camp experience, with bonus activities such as decorating gingerbread houses or apron sewing.
